Jang, Dunya Classified Ads go digital to counter OLX, Rozee | Dwonalod Jang epaper QR Code Reader

With an increasing trend in online advertising, it was getting hard for national newspapers to promote their classified ads. But now media moguls like Jang Group and Dunya Group have introduced modern technology to the ad sections in their dailies.
To facilitate its readers, they have incorporated a free QR code feature in their classified ads. Jang’s Classified ads, which enjoy an unrivalled reach in Pakistan reaching millions of readers every day, was the pioneer in taking this initiative and was followed by Dunya’s.
Express Group is also in the process of creating its application for classified ads on similar patterns.
These new QR code-enabled ads will enable both buyers and sellers in verifying whether an advertisement is fake or not.
To register an ad with QR code, individuals are asked to share their national ID card details. This process will help recognize fake ad posters. By filtering such unscrupulous elements, both the buyers and sellers will benefit from the process.
Also, the sellers can provide additional details in their ads such as an image or video. This is the next step in print advertising as you ad will be visible online too, unlike any other ordinary classified ad.
In the same charges for classified ads, any person interested can ask for free QR code enabled ads.
You’ll receive a text message with all the necessary information for your ad, including a website link, password and reference number, which you can use to upload pictures and video.
After clicking the web link, you can select where and when you want to place your ad, as well as upload additional media for the same.

Interested buyers would have to download a QR reader to their smartphones, which they will use to scan the QR code in newspapers to view the pictures/video posted by the seller.

According to marketing and advertising experts, this new initiative aims at bringing national newspapers back into the market which was being captured by websites like OLX and Rozee.pk which offer free ad service.
“Using this modern technology, the newspapers have made their presence felt,” Basit Alvi, Director Brain Telecom.
Ahmad Malik, Manager Advertising and Marketing Dunya Group, said: “We have introduced QR-based ads in our classified section to counter free sites. Media groups need to keep hegemony for their survival.”
